File: 900-148 Deputy City Engineer 900-149 900-152 SUBJECT: Lanurier/Devon/Burms Watemnain Reconstruction Appointment of Consulting Engineers That Dayton & Knight Ltd. be appointed as consulting engineers for the Laurier Avenue, Devon Road and Burns Road Watermain Design and Construction projects at an estimated cost of $69,000 including G.S.T. That the watermain upgrading on Vincent scheduled for 1992 be deferred for at least one year and the watermain project on Burns between Prairie and Dominion be initiated instead. That the Laurier and Devon watermains be constructed in 1992 and the Bums Road watermain be designed in 1992 and tendered for construction in 1993 (Subject to 1993 Budget approval). That funding come from the 1992 Capital Water Budget. DISCUSSION: Water Reconstruction Projects Originally we proposed that the Laurier Avenue and Devon Road watermains be reconstructed in 1992 along with the watermain on Vincent between Prairie and Cambridge. We have recently learned that there may be some development activity in the Vincent area which would require the developer to upgrade the watermains at his cost. Therefore, we propose to leave the Vincent watermain replacement for another year and in its place nominate a new project on Burns Road between Prairie and Dominion. This new watermain project will not be part of the Riverwood DCC’s nor is it currently anticipated to be part of any other DCC. The watermain is required to improve the supply of fire flows to the general northeast area north of the golf course and will cost approximately $350,000. Since the Vincent watermain was budgeted at $52.000 for 1992 we propose to have the consultant complete his design and tender preparations in 1992 and only if there is sufficient funds from other projects in the Water Utility - 1992 Capital Budget to proceed in 1992. If not the work would be tendered such that it could be constructed in 1993 with the 1993 Budget approval.
