NEWSLETTER cont'd | | February 1976 2. GERDA SPUREY WORKSHOP: A workshop on hand-building with porcelain will be conducted by Gerda Spurey at Langara College the first two weeks in August. Entrants will be limited to 15; fees for this course will be $120.00. This is an advanced course and will be open onlyto potters who have had some experience in hand-building with porcelain. Slides of hand-built pieces must be sent with application forms which will be screened by a committee. A public lecture by Gerda Spurey will be pre- sented on August tst. Time and place to be announced. An exhibition of students' work will be shown at U.8.C. August 14-15. Entry forms and complete information regarding this workshop willbe available at a later date. HARRY DAVIS and his wife May have sent a letter to Ruth Meachan telling about their activities of the past year. Asmanyof you know Harry and May left their well-established pottery in New-Zealand and moved to Izauchaca, Peru. Harry made many friends throughout Canada when he gave workshops on a taur some years ago. Perhaps we could have this letter printed in the Western Potter. DOUGLAS COLLEGE POTTERS CLUS. This group is bursting with activity and in the coming months will offer the following workshops: JOHN CHALKE: Saturday, February2ist, 10 AM-~10 PM, a discussion on “Alternatives to Gas Firing" - wood, electricity etc. Entry fee $5.00 LES MANNING: A two-day workshop, Saturday March 20% and Sunday March 21st. Fee is $5.00 for each day, so you can attend one or two days.The first day will be devoted to demonstrations, the second day potters will have an opportunity to participate. JOHN REEVE: a one-day workshop, Saturday April 10%, 10-4 pm, entry fee is $5.00. For further information regarding these workshops contact Jeanne Sarich at 586-4248 or Diana Nelson at 988-0046. Registration will be at the College the day of the workshop but they would like some idea how many people will attend, so let Jeanne or Diana know. The Douglas College Potters Club also presents a film series at the college and will have guest speakers. Contact Jeanne Sarich for times, programs, etc. We are going to be very busy keeping upwithall these activities. It's a great time to be a potter, especially for those of us who can remem- ber how things were twenty years ago ! In case you are wondering what the letters and numbers on the top right hand of page 1 are: it is the number given to the Newsletter by the International Serials Data System. The purpose of this system is to pro- vide an up-to-date record of world serial publications.The National Li- brary of Canada was designated the Canadian Centre for ISDS and will be responsible for submitting information about serials to the System's Central Files in Paris.
