this summer.

I'm talking about Joan
Payne of the TOPS —- Take
Off Pounds Sensibly,

“It’s a non-profit weight
loss support group, and
there’s been a chapter in
Terrace for about 11 years.

' There are approximately
50 members here in town,
and about 35 of those weigh
in each week,

“Ti’'s not just weight-loss,
We work on self esteem as
well,’” says Payne. ‘‘It’s im-
portant to feel good about
yourself to help keep off the
weight.”

original weight was 298lbs
and .his new weight is a
svelte 210Ibs.

After the convention in
May, Payne and Rosvold
were able to attend the
TOPS Intemational Recog-
nition Day in Washington,
BC. Almost 3,000 delegates
from across Canada and the
US gathered at the Wash-
ington Hilton and Towers.

tendance had reached their
goal weights with the sup-
port from other members of
their chapters.

TOPS has been around for
a long time. Ii was founded
in 1948 by Ester S, Manz,
who felt people should be
able to lose weight in a
