Hastings St., Vancouver, BiG; B 253-1221 In 141 Peace forces around the world were urged to observe the week starting June 5 as ‘‘Week for a just peace in the Middle East’’ by the World Peace Council. In a statement released from its Helsinki headquarters, the WPC said: ‘‘Nine years have passed since Israel committed its aggression in the Middle East on June 5, 1967. In these years, two wars have erupted threatening world peace. Israeli air raids on Palestinian refugee camps have taken place continuously, and ruthless repression has been practised by the Israeli armed forces to curb the just struggle of the Palestinian people in the oc- cupied territories. “All efforts to achieve a com- prehensive solution of the key ‘problems of the crisis have been frustrated by the Israeli rulers backed by imperialist manoeuvres, by the delaying tactics of the U.S. and by colossal American military assistance. “Moreover, the Israel govern- ment is striving to annex Arab territories through the establish- ment of Jewish settlements in the occupied Arab territories, and stubbornly refuses to recognize the inalienable national rights of the Palestinian people. “An increasing effort is now needed more than ever before, in order to attain a just peace that conforms to the interests of all the countries of the region. The basic conditions for such a peace are the withdrawal of Israeli troops from all occupied Arab territories and the attainment of the national rights of the Palestinian people, above all their right to establish their independent state without any outside interference. “The immediate reconvening of the Geneva Conference with the participation, on an equal footing, of all parties concerned, par- ticularly the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), the sole rep- resentative of the Palestinian people, is the most suitable way at present to achieve these aims. “The Middle East crisis, the most dangerous source of tension in our time, and the threat of a new war in the region, directly affect the interests of the people of the world. With this in view, the World SOCIAL EVENING Saturday, June 12th Dorothy Lynas, 832 Calverhali North Vancouver 8 P.M. It is this policy which has brought Canada into a crisis situation. This is also the Tory program. As long as it is continued Canada and the Canadian people will be in treuble. Canada needs a different budget, one which will put Canadians back to work, redistribute income in favor of the working people, ex- pand social services and strengthen the independence of the country. A united effort by the Canadian Labor Congress, the NDP, the Communist Party, farm movements, youth and women, could compel government action in that direction. anatase Beaver Transfer = a * Moving * Packing * Storage 790 Powell St. Phone 254-3711 - COMING EVENTS JUNE 4 — Friday, June 4th, TRIBUNE COFFEE HOUSE, folksinging, refreshments, fun for all. 8 p.m. at the Ukrainian Hall, 805 E.
