1448 Helen Drive, Port Coquitlam, B.C. V3C 2X8, Qctober 24th, 1991, Mr. Bryan Kirk, City Administrator, City of Fort Coquitlam, 2580 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam, B.C. Attention: The Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Port Coquitlam Dear City Council Members, As you are aware the MaryHill Children's Centre has occupied "Kilmer House" and the property at 1592 Knappen Street for the past seven years. It nas given quality care to many children from the community in a homelike and friendly atmosphere with qualified and caring staff, [Tt has expanded each year to try and meet the increasing needs for care in this area of the municipality. It has an excellent location right across from Kilmer Elementary School. I understand that Mrs. Jane Kilmer who owned the house previously was a very community oriented lady and I think she would approve of the present use to which her house has been put. Many single parents use the facilities of the Children's Centre as the rates are reasonable (not much higher than the Government subsidy they are allowed) and it is also used by children in foster homes who are receiving counselling from social workers. The Centre also tries to offer care on a part-time or shift basis which smaller Centres cannot afford to do. All the parents with children registered at the Centre (total 84 children) and all the staff are hoping that the City Council will allow the Centre to purchase this property so that it can continue to provide this community service, and allow the children to enjoy spending their formative years in a gracious old house with lots of space for them to play and learn. Thank you for your consideration. Yours truly, | ote “Gre Doreen McGregor (Mrs.) (20 year resident of Port Coquitlam) ITEM | PAGE
