April 14th, 1975 Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That as recommended in a report from the Leisure Activities Committee, April llth, 1975, the PoCo Saints and Senior "B" Lacrosse Teams be given permission, on a trial basis, to sell beer in the Young Room from one half hour before game time to one half hour after completion of the game; further, that there be a rental charge of $5.00 for the room to compensate for the cleaning; AND THAT after a trial period of approximately one month, the request will come back to Councii on Monday, June 9th, 1975, for evaluation and further recommendation. Defeated. Aldermen Keryluk, Laking and Mabbett voted in favour of the resolution. Prior co defeat of the foregoing resolution, Mayor Campbell and Aldermen Ranger and Traboulay stated their objections to having liquor available where young people are involved in sports. Alderman Laking advised that one of the teams is just starting up and is trying to raise funds for travelling, and Alderman Keryluk stated he was in favour of permitting the sale of beer on the one-month trial basis suggested, From the Leisure Activities Committee, April llth, 1975, advising for information that last year the Committee met with the Sea and Army Cadets to discuss the possibility of using the Dalkey Building as a result of the Agricuitural Hall closure, and that arrangements have been made for these organizations to have evening use this facility from Sunday through Thursday, plus the use of existing offices for their equipment after the Recreation Department has re-located some programs to the new Recreation Centre on Laurier Avenue upon its completion. The Committee, in its report, further advised that the PoCoMo Boys & Girls Club also indicated it would like use of the building, and therefore they have been allocated Friday night and Saturday; however, the Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel any bookings if necessary for any special functions, such as the Goodwill Committee who use the building for a week prior to Christmas to prepare Christmas hampers for the needy. Mayor Campbell then accepted a Notice of Motion Alderman Traboulay stated he wished to make at the meeting next week asking that consideration be given to declaring the Agricultural Hall, Circa 1912, as an historical building in order to qualify for assistance from Heritage Canada in restoring it.
