his full indennity, he vould not like to see Council salaries reach such a low level
that only those persons of means {or retired) would be able to participate. The

concerned however, Alderman Laking stated he would like to have the point clari-
fied by the City Solicitor as to the legality of not taking the indemnity. Alder-
man Mabbett suggested that the City Solicitor could also comment on getting the.

Purple Week

Canada the first Saturday in May of each year has been declared "Elks Purple Cross

Deaf Detection Day" and requesting permission to hold a tag day on Saturday, May
4th and to have the week of April 24th to May 4th proclaimed "Elks and Royal Purple

Week",

Moved by Alderman Thompson:

Seconded by Alderman Ranger: -

That as requested in a letter from the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #49, March 24th, 1974,
permission be granted to hold a tag day on Saturday, May 4th, 1974, declared by that
organization as "Elks Purple Cross Deaf Detection Day", and that the week of April

24th to May 4th, 1974, be proclaimed "Elks and Royal Purple Week". Carried.
Alderman Laking absent.

Prior to the question being called on the foregoing resolution, Alderman

Laking stated he wished to refrain from voting on the motion as he was a member of
S the Elks Lodge, and he thereupon left the Council Chamber.

After the vote was taken on the motion, Alderman Laking returned and resumed
nis seat in the Council Chamber.
