Trahoulay, City of Port Coquitlam, 2272 McAllister, Port Coquitlam, B.C. V3C 2A8 Dear Mayor Traboulay: This is to introduce Poco's "Olympics of the Mind" team. This competicion is organized for gifted and creative students who compete in many different categories, The organizers of the "Olympies of the Mind" believe that the mind can be trained similarly to the body of an athlete. The school's team competed in the category of "Strategy Structure”. In this competition the students have to design structures out of 1/8" x 1/8" balsa wood and the maximum weight of the structure cannot exceed 18 grams (5/8 oz.) The objective of the competition is to place as much weight as possible on the structure while component parts are cut away. Our team placed lst in the B.C. Finals by placing 445 lbs. weight on the structure. This, according to the expectations of tie organizers, is an exceotional result. ; By placing first in B.C., our team won the right to represent the fxovince at the World Finals. We believe we have a very strong team but at present are concerned with the funding of our trip. The team needs approximately $6,000.00 to cover the cost of travel and staying at the World Finals. We are currently looking for sponsors to finance our participation at the World Finals in whole or in part. I was informed by some of the team members that you had expressed an interest in assisting us. This letter is intended to give you some information regarding our accomplishments and the purpose of the competition. If you require additional information or wish to contact me for any reason, please feel free to do so. Yours truly,
