CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQIJITLAM ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECIEN COMMrl'TBB MINUTES A meeting of the Environmental Protection Committee was held at City Hall, 2580 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam, Wednesday, July 28, 1993 at 8:30 a.m. In attendance were: Councillor J.J. Keryluk, Chairman J.E. Yip, P. Eng., Deputy City Engineer M.J. Davies, P. Eng., Project Engineer CONHRhMTION OF MINIJIBS The Minutes of the Environmental Protection Committee Meeting held on Wednesday, July 21, 1993 were considered, read and adopted. ITEM IL RBID'S DEPARTMENT STORE LTD./Letter dated July 21, 1993 COMPOSTING PROGRAM The Project Engineer reviewed the over all pricing makeup for the Composter Sale Program (memo of July 26/93). Staff confirmed that a base markup of $ 5.00 per ccmposter was agreed to with the distributors. This was arranged as part of the 1992 program. Due to an increase in the Provincial Sales Tsx from 6% to 7% there is a difference of $ 0.19 per unit. Following review it was concluded that this difference be reimbursed to the distributors. Further discussion was held on the program which the City has now participated in for two years. Under the cost sharing agreement 1/3 of the total cost is borne by the City, with the Provincial Mnisuy of Environment contributing 1/3 and the purchaser covering the balance. It is anticipated the City will be contributing approximately $ 27,000 to the 1993 program. It was felt that some of this money maybe better spent on promoting composting through advertising rather than subsidizing such a program., Accordingly consideration should be given to discontinuing the Program in 1994 and possibly continuing with an alternative program where there is no contribution Lom the City. It is understood that the Municipality of Delta is canying out such a program. This should be investigated as an alternative program for 1994. lirajiji'll cont'd....2 'gjgt iesaag& ii ll gI;i 5!! %1, il III ~3~ lpga ,'Mllll( I » ~ I% I Slllllatru (~!gg ~! pp]fig]f!( )Isis,111lll f Jgpl I— »»,at,~gi~t ~ ~ ...",: .- =~,,,~s Iwl u I'»~ti ~;; —;;,.-u~.
