Plann.& Zon. .; Comm. re ' Parkland levy July 12th, 1976 information on the expenditure of funds for ‘pager rental' on cheque # 4355 and the City Administrator agreed to investigate and report. Alderman Mabbett queried the length of time covered by payments of telephone and mileage to Firemen (which is required by their Contract with the City) and was advised that payments are made on a six month basis. Alderman Mabbett further queried a damage payment (cheque #4315) and the City Administrator advised that same was payment for damages incurred from a sewer back-up caused by City work in the area. From the Planning and Zoning Committee, July 7th, 1976 with respect to a proposed increase in the levy on new developments for Parkland Acquisition and Development and recommending that the charge be increased to $600.00 per dwelling unit from the present $250.00 per dwelling unit. Moved by Alderman Laking: Seconded by Alderman Traboulay: That the charge on new developments for Parkland Acquisition and Development be increased from $250.00 per dwelling unit to $600.00 per dwelling unit. Defeated. Aldermen Laking and Traboulay voted in favour of the resolution. Prior to the question being called on the foregoing resolution, Alderman Mabbett proposed an amendment to the resolution. Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Traboulay: That the foregoing resolution be amended to read that the new charge will be $506.00 per dwelling unit. Aldermen Laking, Traboulay & Mabbett voted in favour of the resolution. During discussion on the foregoing resolutions Alderman Traboulay pointed out that present day costs in acquiring and developing parkland were increasing to the extent that there were insufficient monies in the Parks Acquisition and Development Fund to permit development of needed facilities and cited the park adjacent to the new G.V.H.C. development as an example, and further suggested that such an increase would not be setting a precedent as the current rate in the District of Coquitlam was $600.00 per dwelling unit. In speaking in favour of the increase, Alderman Laking noted that at the present time residential 'raw' land is selling for $50-60,000.00 per acre and hence if a park is to be
