Only three of these officers were opposed. Chief critic, Syd Thompson, President of Local 1-217, declined nomination but named his Financial Secretary, Stu Hodgson, to contest the Regional Presidency against Jack Moore. Incumbent Ist Vice-President Jack Mac- Kenzie was opposed by President Weldon Jubenville, Local 1-80. A member of Local 1-367 nominated Walter Allen to oppose the nomination of incumbent Fred Fieber for the office of Sec- retary-Treasurer. The official statement of the Regional Policy Committee had been de- scribed in the press as “garbage” and “hog- wash” only fit to be burned. The acceptance vote of the membership was clear proof, he said, that the Regional Policy Committee had served the will of the membership. Retraction of false charges demanded or International - hearing requested When all points of_view had been thor- oughly aired, the convention demanded re- traction of the groundless charges made re- garding illegal expenditure from the strike fund. Failing to secure such retraction, the convention requested that the Regional Ex- ecutive Board be heard before the Interna- tional Executive Board at the next meeting to clear the good name of the Union and the Board. Earlier the negotiation of a Millwrights’ Apprenticeship Training Program had been attacked. Opposition to this program wilted during the convention.
