However, only one Terrace team made it and they had to settle for second-place silver medals, The Prince George “B” team took control - in the third period and ran up a gold-medal- winning 7-4 victory over the Terrace Pup Reps. In the playoff for bronze medals and fourth place, an inspired Residents praised TERRACE — Local RCMP congratulate dis- trict residents for their awareness of problems caused by drinking driv- ing. RCMP said since Dec. 20, only five people were charged with impaired driving. On New Year's Eve, a number of road blocks were set up overnight as a counter attack against impaired drivers. The 10-team series was set up for a pair of five- team divisions where teams played a round- robin with each team get- ting four games. | The best four from each division then went into quarter-final playoffs against squads from the other division. Quarter-final results had Prince George ‘‘B”’ downing Smithers 6-2, Terrace ‘‘B’’ shading Kitimat ‘‘B’’ 2-1, Prince’ Rupert Reps taking Prince George Reps 4-2, and Terrace Reps defeating Kitimat Reps 10-3. | Prince George’s win- ners also picked up some individual hardware. Forward Clayton Fidler won the scoring title with a 20-point effort that in- cluded 16 goals. Fidler had tied in points with Rupert Reps’ Mark Mc- Coy, but took the award with more goals. McCoy was not for- gotten — he was named most valuable player. Fidler's teammate Brent Gerdes was named the most inspirational player, and the team as a whole took home the most sportsmantlike team trophy as well. Terrace Reps had their share of single honors, too. Jonathon Shephard was named best de- fenceman, while Shane Bourgoin got the un- sung-hero award. The outstanding forward trophy went to a third Terrace player — Brian Cox. The Kitimat Reps were not forgotten. Ryan Ben- nato won the Mr. Hustle trophy. The best goalie in the four-day series was Gary Meerdink of Smithers. This is born out by statistics released at the Christmas break. Skeena Hotel is the league leader, but only by two points over run- nerup Savalas Restau- rant and four over third- place Lakelse. Skeena has amassed 14 points on six wins, four losses and a couple of ties, Savalas also has six wins, but no ties and seven losses. Lakelse, with the fewest number of games played, has a four-win, five-loss and two-tie record. The scoring leader is Larry Swanson with 39 points -— two more than runnerup Simon Dodd. Swanson tops the league in goals with 23 while Dodd is the leading playmaker with 24 assists. Bob Demster and Ran- dy Merkle are tied for third with 33 points apiece.
