Parfois, dans la vie, il nous faut juste un petit quelque chose pour changer notre humeur et sentir tout a coup
une bouffée de chaleur et un bien-étre nous envahir. Et ca, une chanson, une seule parfois, peut arriver a le faire.
Aussi, il ya des chansons qui peuvent laisser des traces indélébiles qui restent avec nous pour toute une vie.

En cette année 2017, il me semble que nous avons bien besoin d’une dose de remontant pour nous faire
oublier tous les désagréments météorologiques que nous avons subis. Et le 28*™* Festival d’été francophone
de Vancouver pourrait bien faire partie de la solution. Je dois avouer que je me meurs d’impatience de voir la
foule des festivaliers entonner en choeur avec Paul Piché le désormais célébre « heureux d’un printemps qui me
chauffe la couenne ». Oui, voila une chanson quia elle seule peut racheter cette année 2017. Bien str, Paul Piché
ne manquera pas de provoquer, comme il le fait depuis quarante ans, d’autres émotions qui nous questionnent
sur des enjeux politiques et identitaires. En ce sens, Nadia Essadiqui, alias La Bronze, artiste québécoise d'origine
tunisienne, est en elle-méme un écho, une réponse a certaines problématiques soulevées dans les chansons du
grand Paul. Celle qui ouvrira la soirée du 17 juin a déja marqué la francophonie internationale avec sa superbe
reprise en arabe de la chanson « Formidable » de Stromae. Elle viendra en quelque sorte nous montrer que la
chanson évolue au rythme de notre société, et quelle fait battre les coeurs en diapason avec les changements
qui nous traversent. Il en sera de méme avec ILAM, arrivé au Canada du Sénégal il y a a peine trois ans, qui
sera jumelé avec trois artistes de la francophonie britanno-colombiennes d'origine africaine, en plus d’un DJ
vancouvérois pour apporter une touche électronique a cette musique chaude et métissée. D’autres artistes
francophones de la Colombie-Britannique nous offriront de nouvelles chansons qui nous monteront a la téte
et feront valser nos coeurs. Que ce soit Pascal Saunier avec la suite du destin du club « Jazztown », « Combustion
Lente » et son nouveau projet folk et instrumental, ou encore Isabelle Longnus et « La Ceinture de Vénus », un
spectacle qui a au coeur de sa thématique la sexualité feminine, les moments magiques ne manqueront pas.

Sur ce, il ne me reste plus qu’a vous souhaiter un festival heureux... et beau!

Sometimes in life, it just takes a little something to lift our spirits and suddenly, we have a new-found feeling of
warmth and well-being. And that little something can be a song. Some songs can even leave indelible traces that
stay with us for a lifetime.

Now, in 2017, it seems to me that we really need a good dose of “pick-me-up” to forget the catastrophic floods and
storms and global worries we have been subjected to. And the 28" Festival d’été francophone de Vancouver could
be part of the solution. | have to admit that | just can’t wait to see the crowd of festival-goers raise their voices in
unison with Paul Piché in the now-famous “heureux d’un printemps qui me chauffe la couenne” (which is very hard
to render in English but means something like “the joy of springtime that warms the cockles of my heart”). Yes, here
isa song that can singlehandedly redeem the trials of 2017! Of course, true to his 40 years of performance, Paul Piché
will not fail to trigger other emotions that challenge us on political issues and questions of identity. In this sense, Nadia
Essadiqui, alias “La Bronze’ a Quebec artist of Tunisian origin, personifies an echo, an answer to certain issues raised
in the songs of the illustrious Paul. She will open the concert on June 17 with a song that has already made its mark
on the international francophone community, her superb cover of Stromae’s song “Formidable” (“Amazing”), sung in
Arabic. In her own way, she will show us that songs keep pace with our society, and that they have the power to make
our hearts beat to the rhythms of the changes we have to navigate. The same is true for LAM, who arrived in Canada
from Senegal just three years ago, and will be paired up with three British Columbian francophone artists of African
origin, as well as a Vancouver DJ, to bring an electronic buzz to this warm musical mosaic. Other francophone artists
from British Columbia will bring us new songs that will make our heads spin and our hearts light. Whether it's Pascal
Saunier with the sequel to the story of the Jazztown club, or “Combustion Lente” (“Slow Combustion’) with a new folk-
instrumental project, or Isabelle Longnus and “La Ceinture de Vénus” (“Belt of Venus”), a show on the theme of female

sexuality, we promise that magical moments are in store.
