I was ten years old and newly. arrived in Victoria from.
England, It was 1967 — Canada’s Centennial, and all the
elementary ‘school choirs were tought CA- NA-DA fora

special ‘performance. «

with two: groups -of singers. On the’ date of the per-.
formance, ‘hnmdreds. of kids were bussed. to the Royal
Theatre:in downtown Victoria, where we. were to perform
for the Lietenant-Governor of B. .C. Bobby Gimby himself
was there to conduct the song...

When the music-swelled all the doors to ‘the theatre were
opened | and: ‘hundreds. of kids streamed ‘in from all direc-
‘tions, running down ‘the aisles waving: Canadian flags, and
singing at the top of our lungs... CAs NA- ‘DA: One little,
two little three ‘Canadians...””.--

It waa. organized ; chaos; but somehow al the kids got
onthe stage; everyone sang. the ight words and the right .
verse, and we gota standing ovation. ;

I'll never. forget the pride I felt that day in being : a part of
Canada, or forget how I sang my hear out for my new
country.”
