C. Milan, which won the European Cup in 1963 and 1969, piled up a 3-0 advantage in its home match against Scottish club Dundee. Milan, which beat Dundee in the semi-finals on the way to its 1963 triumph, went ahead through World Cup star Gianni Rivera in the 13th min- ute. An own goal by Dundee’s George Stewart boosted the Italian tally in the 56th minute before Benetti wrapped up the scoring 18 minutes from the end. Juventus, the Italian League leaders, earned a 1-0 win away to Rapid Vienna of Austria through a 30th-minute header by Roberto Bettega from a cross by striker Pietro Anastasi. Both Milan and Juventus looked capable of winning by wider margins, with the Milan club being thwarted mainly by the fine goalkeeping cf Dun- dee’s Alistair Donaldson. ROMANIA WINS Another club apparently set for the quarter-finals is Unizale Textile Arad of Romania which hammered out a 3-0 triumph at home to Vitoria Setubal of Port- ugal. Wolverhampton Wanderers of the English League gained their fifth successive cup victory 1-0 against the East German League leaders, Carl Zeiss Jena, on German home ground. Ford Il develops riverfront DETROIT (AP) — Henry Ford Ii has unveiled pians for a $500-million riverfront develop- ment to be built on 28% acres of land just east of the Detroit Civic Centre. Ford said Wednesday that plans call for a late 1972 start on the project, which will in- clude offices, apartments, shops, restaurants and a Lower- ing, cylindrical hotel. “We want shops, entertain- ment, discotheques, whatever you call it,” the board chairman of Ford Molor Co. said. “We see a living, exciting place that will revitalize down- town Detroit. [ have a deep and personal interest in this pro- gram and I intend to see it through to completion.’’ Ford said he has hired archi- tect John C. Portman Jr., de- signer of Atlanta’s famous Peachtree Centre. OBTAINS OPTIONS Options on the property or agreements to grant options have been obtained from ali the owners, Ford said. Wayne Doran, president of the Ford Motor Land Development Corp., a subsidiary of Ford Motor Co., told the council the building program is expected to last eight Lo 10 years. The first phase could be completed within four or five years at a cost of $175 million, he said. At a news conference with Mayor Roman Gribbs, Ford said: “I, as an individual, am firmly convinced that Detroit must have revitalization throughout its entire central— city area—more business, more life, more good architecture and all of the other features that would make ita more attractive place in which to live, work and Seek recreation. " OTM SST cET ae, yO Buffalo outshoots Fred Glover Kings Despite the fact the Sabres took a 2-0 lead in the first pe- riod, the Kings dominated the action, Only brilliant goaltend- ing by Crozier prevented coach Fred Glover’s Kings from get- ling on the scoreboard as they outshol Buffalo 18 to 7. The Kings kept the pressure on Crozier throughout the night as they finished with 44 shots, including 18 more in the second period and eight in the final, while Buffalo got only 30 shots, It was a gratifying win for the Kings in that last year's high- scoring line of Bob Berry, Wid- ing and Byers finally got un- tracked. Widing, the club’s lead- ing scorer last year, collected two goals and also chipped in with an assist. | Perreault was a standout for the Sabres even in defeat as he opened the scoring in the game with 4 15-footer whirling around and beating Kings Vachon. Per- . reault, last year's rookie-of-the- year, has scored a point in each - of Buffalo’s last 13 games. Martin's 15th goal of the sea- ~ son in the first period came on “a Buffalo power play. Martin, the Sabres’ top draft choice, leads the Sabres in scoring with 27 points. Eleven of Martin’s 15 goals have been scored on the road, a real difficult feat for anybody, let aione a rookie. Potvin, a 22-year-old rushing defenceman, got the Kings first score al 1:53 of the second pe- riod on a 55-footer, which was set up by wing Real Lemieux who took out the Sabres’ de- fenceman.
