Armed with that princi-
ple as her guide, Tara Di-
Zazzo, now 4. first-year
student at the University of
Northern B.C. in Prince
George, bepan her search
for scholarship money last
winter, .- ..

By. June 2001, she'd
earned nearly $36,000
worth of scholarships and
bursaries,

School principal Scott
Stewart was impressed.

“She and another girl
had received quite a sub-
stantial sum-“of: money for
scholarships,” Stewart re-
calls.

He decided to ask Di-
Zazzo to write a handbook
for other students at Ha-
zelton Secondary who
were hoping to apply for
Scholarship money for col-
lege and university studies.

He hired -DiZazzo for
the summer. She and her
mother, Leslie, compiled
about 60 scholarships and
bursaries they’d uncovered
in their previous research,

And then they set out to
find more, mostly through
the Internet.

The Scholarship Hand-
book for Secondary Stu-
dents in B.C. contains in-
formation on how to apply
for about 75 different scho-
larships and bursaries for-a
wide-range of students, in-
cluding First Nations. wha
want to continue studies at
the post-secondary level.
