The Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages In Vancouver, on April 15, 2010, the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages (OCOL) released Phase 3 of its study about the vitality of Francophone communities in British Columbia. The FFCB and OCOL organized a press conference presenting the study of the vitality of British Columbia's Francophone community. Several representatives of this community were present to get acquainted with the current situation in the province. FEDERAL POLITICS The Federal Government The Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique (FFCB) maintained an ongoing dialogue throughout the year with officials at Canadian Heritage and with its Minister, the Honourable James Moore. Building on the cordial relationship strengthened during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the President of the FFCB, Dr. Réal Roy, presented the community's concerns and informed Minister Moore of the challenges and achievements guiding the community. The Government of Quebec The appointment of Ms. Elisabeth Lefrangois to Quebec’s Vancouver branch office was enthusiastically received by the community. Before being employed by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC), Ms. Lefrancois was the FFCB coordinator for the Olympic Games. Ms. Lefrancois’s knowledge of and strong ties to the community provided interesting and solid partnerships with the Secrétariat aux affaires intergouvernementales canadiennes (SAIC). A New Coordinator for Governmental Relations This year, the FFCB was joined by a new Coordinator for Government Relations and Research, Mr. Christian Deron.
