-” THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM C S, UJ OCT 22 1979 MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and Council October 18, 1979 FROM: Public Works Committee Report from the Public Works Committee Meeting held October L6th, 1979. IN ATTENDANCE: Alderman P.F. Ranger . ' Alderman J.J. Keryluk F.E. Peters, City Engineer J. Maitland, City Treasurer for Item I ITEM I Re; Water Meters in Farm Areas The Committee considered the question of whether farms should be Placed on water meters. This was as a result of a4 question asked by Alderman Traboulay about whether piggeries were paying for the water they used. A report from the City Treasurer dealing with metering of farms is attached. In the opinion of the Committee, a piggery is a type of farming and should not be treated differently from other types of farms. ‘ In dealing with the 1979. water rates Council discussed the metering of farms and decided that all farms would go on a flat rate. This ‘decision was based on the. fact that records from the past indicated that farms. did not use more water on the average than other residential properties, ; The Committee recommends that farms remain on a flat water rate but thac By~law 991 be amended so that the exemption for residential premises also applies to non-commercial farms. A commercial farm would be one for which a business license is required. . ITEM II —————ne Re; Flashing Light for Crosswalk at Lions Way The Committee reconsidered this item as a result of further infor- mation supplied by Council. ‘Two options were discussed. Option one would be to provide amber flashers, one over each . crosswalk sign, which would be for the purpose of attracting the atten- tion of drivers to the existing crosswalk. The cost for the flashers, rewiring and a flasher controller would come to about §800.
