Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That the request for an extension of the burning permit for Nu-West Development on their property at Cedar Drive be denied. Defeated. Aldermen Traboulay and Ranger voted in favour of. the: resolution. Prior to the foregoing resolution a lengthy discussion was held with Alderman Traboulay asking Mr. Schellenberg what he would consider to be favourable weather conditions and Mr. Schellenberg replied the contractor was waiting for the ground to freeze in order to use heavy equipment. Aldermen Mabbett and Laking advised Council they had complaints from residents on the smoke and fly ash from one area of the clearing at the end of Spruce Street but that the fire off Cornwall Street was a good fire as dry material had been trucked in. Moved by Alderman Thompson: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That Nu-West Development be granted an extension of four days on their burning permit for property at Cedar Drive providing: THAT the material is moved in to the middle of the property away from the residential area and that the stumps are removed; THAT the developer bring in dry material to help keep the fire going; AND THAT the developer must advise the City when the material is readied for burning so an inspection may be done before burning takes place. Carried. Aldermen Ranger and Traboulay voted against the resolution. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution Alderman Mabbatt asked that the Fire Department be advised when burning would be taking place and Deputy Fire Chief J. Boileau asked that a meeting he set up to discuss burning permits generally with Council.
