Moved by Alderman Keryluk: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That the Mayor's Office in the City of Port Coquitlam work in conjunction with the City of Vancouver in accepting donations for the plight of the ‘boat people', in order that all monies would be used correctly and that a tax receipt could be obtained. Carried. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution discussicn ensued. Alderman Keryluk spoke in favor of using the Mayor's Office to accept donations but was not in favor of using the City owned houses rent free. Alderman Trabeulay spoke in favor of helping refugees. Alderman Ranger stated in his opinion some of the 'boat people' should be brought into the area so the community would realize what the actual probiem is. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Wright: That a policy be accepted until December 31st, 1980 that any City- owned house that becomes vacant be turned over to the "Boat People" Committee rent free; AND THAT the maximum use of any house would be two years.
