December 8th, 1975 Ald.Keryluk re Alderman Keryluk advised that the November library circulation Library circulation increase,etc. figures show an increase of 2,144 volumes over October and to date an increase of 32,892 books as compared with 1974. Ald.Keryluk re Alderman Keryluk advised he was informed by the Director of the immunization programs— smallpox & Medical Health Centre, Dr. John Blatherwick, that the World Health tetanus Organization now feels that within two years smallpox will be completely eliminated as the only two countries in the world that still have evidence of smallpox are Ethiopia and Bangladesh. Alderman Keryluk further advised that no smallpox has been imported into Canada for 20 years, and that British Columbia will now join 7 other Canadian Provinces in no longer recommending immunization for smallpox be car.ied out except for persons who might come in contact with the disease, such cs transport personnel, ambulance attendants, etc.; also, Tetanus has been dropped from the Grade 5 immunization schedule, and reinforcement is recommended to be given once every 10 years only. Ald.Keryluk re Alderman Keryluk referred to a letter received from a Mrs. Collins new garbage pick-up charge re the new garbage pick-up charge, and he suggested that for clarification, she be informed that although there will be a levy of $24.00, this amount is simply being removed from the tax assessment for general purposes and placed as a separate charge on the annual tax notice. Ald.Keryluk re Alderman Keryluk stated he was pleased to learn from the Recreation use of Laking Room- Sr.Citizens Department that the senior citizens are using the Laking Room at the Port Recreation Centre extensively. Ald.Laking re Alderman Laking referred to Application S#62-72, being a proposed Appin. S#62-72- Rd.Clos.& Sub.road clusure and subdivision of properties in the Langan-Kingsway area ~Langan-Kingsway area that was deferred at the previous Council meeting for further review by the Community Development Committee, and he gave a brief explanation of the various alternatives available as show on a plan received from the City Engineer with respect to the future re-alignment of Langan Avenue. The City Engineer advised that if Council approved the recommendation set forth in the November 28th, 1975 report of the Community Development Committee, the Developer would be advised to prepare survey plans for road closure and subdivision plans for conveyancing.
