Rabin Hopper, Waiter Dexter & Noboru Kubo are just a fow of the instructors This summoer.| have had the opportunity to attend MISSA for the past two summers. The first year | attended Lorne Loomer'sSrush Usage course, | was attracted to his course by the description offered “...connect and for reconnect with the brush as a primitive teol,... re-establish the child's joy of playing with the brush.... reaffirm the central concept that less is always more...". Little did | know | was embarking on an adventure of personal rediscovery and a reconnection with the enviranment and our interaction with it | came to make marks on paper and to free up my creativity. | left with a profound sense of calm and wonder... and | could hardly wait to get back to MISSA last summer where | attended for two weeks. This time | stayed in residence on campus and experienced the wild and crazy atmosphere of a workshop with Randy Srodnax, a potter from Texas, who opened me up to risk taking as an important step to personal and professional growth as a potter. As differant as these two instructors may be in personality and approach, they each lef me with wonderful lessons leamed and an appreciation for the great diverstities of life, But it's net just the instruction and courses that made these experiences so special, It was the camaraderie amongst ail the participants, learning from each other, taking time from our ‘real fives’ to just be creative spirits with no strings attached, Staying in residence is, definetely a plus as a special dynamic develops amongst students. However, there are other options - even a campground (with hot showers!) on the beach a mere five minutes away. | can't say enough about these experiences and | encourage you to investigate the course outlines for yourselves. There are brochures at the Potter's Guild office or use the address on the Back of this newsletter.
