Carried. Prior to passage of the above resolution, discussion ensued regarding the possible increase in sewer rates by a similar amount, however, it was pointed out by Alderman Ranger that the City Treasurer advised that there was no way that he couid justify any increase to the Public Utility Services Commission at this time. Alderman Laking questioned whether or not such an increase could be justified on the basis of extending service to the area South of Shaughnessy and Pitt River and the City Administrator advised that such a development could justify an increase however, no such definite plans were in progress at this time. Mayor Campbell assured the Council that following his discussion with the City Treasurer, it was apparent that increases could not be justified, otherwise they would have been recommended. From the Finance Committee January 16th, 1976 with respect to providing for a waiver of a portion of the sewer charges for Senior Citizens and a recommendation that the rebate be increased for 1976 by 25¢ per month or $3.00 for the year. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Traboulay: That as recommended in the January 16th, 1976 report of the Finance Committee respecting the waiver of a portion of the sewer charges for Senior Citizens, the 1976 rebate be increased by 25¢ per month or $3.00 for the year. Carried. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Ranger noted that this increased waiver will have the effect of offsetting the water rate increase for the Senior Citizens and also that serious thought had been given to abolishing the waiver entirely as the cost of administration is becoming too high, however, no such action is recommended at this time.
