April 21st, 1975 stated that there were 86 residential and 18 business breaking and entering offences ~ an increase from the previous inonth - and suggested that pendulum of permissiveness has swung far enough = now parents must be encouraged to discipline thejr children, and stated he felt the curfew would be worth implementing on a trial basis. Mayor Campbell pointed out that beer parlours close at 1:00 a.m., and that the basic idea is to get people to go home. Mayor Campbell questioned the feeling a 12 or 13-year old must have standing out at night knowing no one cares whether he oz she is home or noc, and stated that he felt such incidents should be brought to the attention of the proper authorities and the parents. From the Senior Building Inspector, April 18th, 1975 concerning the construction of greenhouses in Agricultural zones, which subject was deferred at the previous Council meeting in order that more information could be obtained, particularly with respect to a specific greenhouse presently under construction. Alderman Traboulay requested that the subject be again deferred in order that the same can be discussed at a meeting of the Building & Protection Committee tomorrow at 3:45 p-m., and to this the Council generally agreed. From Alderman P.F. Ranger, April 9th, 1975, being a proposal to re-route traffic from Western Drive to Mary Hill Road by way of Thea, that had been presented as a Notice of Motion at the previous Council meeting. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That a temporary closure of Western Drive at Thea be implemented for a trial period of one month, beginning on Thursday, May lst until Monday, June 2nd, 1975. Defeated. Alderman Ranger voted in favour of the resolution. Prior to defeat of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Ranger spoke to his proposal and mentioned the fact that because of the grade on Western Drive, the speed of vehicles going down is often about 40 m.p.h. by the time they reach Anita Drive, and stated he felt some preventative measures are indicated. Alderman Keryluk stated he was concerned that the problem appears to be one of speeding, and commented he was not sure re-routing traffic is going to solve the speeding problem, whereas speed bumps or imposing a 20 m.p.h. speed limit may.
