~2- Port. Moody has indicated that they are considering a substantial increase for 1972 although they have not yet set their rates. I would recommend that we set our rates for this year as follows; Returning Officer ~ $85.00 Deputy Returning Officer -~ 45,00 Poll Clerk 28.00 Counter ~ from 8 P.M, - 7.50 _In addition, we have also paid the senior Deputy Returning Officer an additional sum for her services in assisting on the day prior to the election in preparing the election materials and if a delayed count is necessary (such as will be required this. year for the Regional District Hospital vote) we have paid the eputy Returning Officer an additional sum. The sum paid in these cases was .$5.00 and I would recommend that this amount be increased to $7.50. The revision of these amounts will put us more in line. with current municipal practice. The rates suggested are in excess of those paid by the Provincial and Federal governments for their elections, for example, the Federal rates are $28.00 for the person in charge of the poll and $22.00 for the Poll Clerk. At these elections however, the poll is generally manned by more personnel and they only have one ballot to contend with. This year we will have at least four ballots and possibly a fifth if the School Board Referendum is approved. TI would therefore recommend these rates and would be prepared to provide Council with any further information that may be required, Social Allowance ~ Christmas Bonus We have received a circular letter from the Department of Rehabilitation that the usual Christmas bonus will be payable to all Social Welfare recipients on the basis cf $10. for each head of the family and $4. for each Single person. These amounts are reimbursed by Victoria and we will be paying this bonus with the December cheques unless Council has any objection. LT Nea LANG mek Rig ata AMER BE Nagy Peay tre : PUL yal not on
