Mayor Campbell re June 10th, 1974. CFMM Conference - cont'd. Page - 2 - and Welfare must-be removed from our budget. We agreed that the total monies collected by the three governments is sufficient but there must be a better system of distribution. I- attended a meeting on rail location and will be discussing this further. Basford also spoke on Municipal Land Assembly, Municipal Housing and the Neighbourhood Improvement Program. I recommend that we look into all of these to see if there is a benefit for Port Coquitlam. Many resolutions were passed but I believe this is a minor function of the organization. The Conference was exceptionally well organized, very informative and most entertaining. I took the time to ask Aldermen, staff and citizens how they liked the new Metro system. All were very hesitant about answering but admitted that so far it has been a great disappointment. Party politics has entered the Municipal field, bureaucracy has grown and the citizens feel that they are no longer in touch with their elected members. Next year it will be London, Ontario.
