Mayor Jack Talstra recently signed a proclamation declaring the week of March 24-30

"Knights of Columbus Week” in the District of Terrace. This year is the 75th anniversary
of the B.C. and Yukon Council of the Knights of Columbus. The 90-member Terrace
branch of the organization has assisted In the construction of the Terrace Arena and a
seniqr citizen's housing complex. Looking on as the mayor signs the proclamation is Ter-
race Knights of Columbus Grand Knight, Pierre LeGal.

FBDB
changes

TERRACE — The
Federal Business
Development Bank

(FBDB) first opened
their doors on Aug 1,
1973 in the Coffee Shop
of the Terrace Hotel.

The staff and all their
files had arrived, but the
contractors were two
days late in finishing the
interior of the original
Lakelse office.

After various startup
adventures, the Bank
operated for the first five
years with Mike Kar-
tasheff as the manager.
He has since retired from
FBDB and is instructing
business courses at the
college in Cranbrook.

Next, Brian Parsons
spent three years as
manager in Terrace.
Currently, he is the
manager of the Nanaimo
Branch.

For the past five years,
Len Winter has been the
branch manager. On
April 1, he is transferring
to the Northern District
office in Prince George.
Phil Hart] will be assum-
ing his duties as the
manager at the bank’s
new location on Lazelle
Avenue.

Over the years the

operational staff has also |

changed. Len McCabe
now holds the position
of Project Development
Officer, Peggy Hartnell
is the Branch Secretary
and the receptionist is
Corrine McQuarrie.
Gary Batty will be re-
joining the Branch on
April 1 as the Loan Of-
ficer. The Bank con-
tinues to look forward to
many more years of ser-
vice in the community.

A cheque for the sum of $255 was recently presented to
Susan Lang, speech therapist at the Child Development
Centre, by Ken Kalterman, on behalf of the Skeena Valley
Rallroad Association.
