? Marcel Georges School staffers — get hike NON-UNION employees and administrators in the Coast Mountains school . District have been given a raise this year. Senior administrators, school principals and other non-union employees at the Coast Mountains school District have been given a 2.5 per cent salary increase. The pay hike applies to 54 employees district- wide, secretary-treasurer Marcel Georges said. The Wage increase, which applies to this year only, represents about $100,000 in added costs for the district, Georges said. The district’s excluded ' staff, also known as ex- empt staff, have not had a pay increase for many years, he added. _ “The spread between a highly paid teacher and a vice principal is not thal wide.” ‘Stipends” for school trustees were not raised. Meanwhile, the district "is facing more than $1 million in added costs this year to pay for the second instalment of the teacher’s legislated wage increase. ‘Teachers are now in year two of a 7.5 per cent pay.raise over three years — an increase mandated by the provincial government earlier this year to end a teachers’ job action. Declining enrolment, added benefit costs, the wage increase for teachers and a new funding formula from the education mini- stry have created a laom- ing budget deficit for the coming year. The school district closed schools and laid off — teachers and other em- ployees to balance its bud- pet earlier this year and is considering ways ta reduce costs and increase reve- nue. The district is locking al making cuts to admin- istration to help money, but no specific lime lines for potential layoffs have been set.
