THE SHELVES ARE BARE at the Terrace Food Bank of the Churches. The food

bank operates throughout the winter months, offering bags of food to the needy.
It relies on donations from church members and the public. Jake Drooger, a
yalunteer with the food bank, would love to see the shelves stocked.

THE FOOD BANK of the churches
will hand out 500 bags of food next
month — but it doesn’t look like there
will be much in them.

Shelves are bare at the storage room,
located in the basement of a hall on the
4600 block of Walsh Ave.

Food bank volunteer Jake Drooger
says the food bank hands out about $4-
§,000 worth of food each month during
the winter when it’s open.

That’s, about 500 bags of food.

The next food bank will be held Nov.

17-20. The churches are looking for

donations of both non-perishable food
and money.

That’s because organizers usually buy
items such as eggs and bread right be-
fore the food bank opens.

The government has also changed the
rules on what can be donated to food
banks.

For example, donations of canned
jams and pickles can now be accepted.

The public can drop off donations at
local. churches and. at the Salvation
