Tite CORPGRATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COGURLAM 2272 McALLISTER AVENUE PORT COQUITLAM, B.C. - TELEPHONE: 943.8494 V3C 2A8 OUR FILE ” February 25th, 1975 The Honourable J.G. Lorimer, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Parliament Buildings, Victoria, B.C. f Dear Sir: Re: Local Government Re-structure Feasibility Study We are instructed by His Worship Mayor J.M. Campbell of this City to write and advise that your proposal for a Local Government Re- structure Advisory Committee was considered at a vegular meeting of the Municipal Council of The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam sitting as a Committee of the Whole of Monday, February 17th, 1975. As a result of the Council discussion at that time we were thorized to submit a slightly revised version of your proposal and a copy of it: is attached hereto. ; : Mayor Campbell, has asked me to point out to you that although the City of Port Coquitlam is participating in the Re~-structure Advisory Committee, it does sn unwillingly as our Council feels that such a Study is neither necessary nor desirable and, in fact, when mention was first made of the Study in 1974 Premier Barrett stated that it would not be undertaken unless all lo.al government components in the area agreed that it should be. Port Coquitlam (and we believe, Port Moody), of course, did not agree that the study should be undertaken but Premier Barrett has nevertheless now instructed that it go forward. Our Council ~ has seen no evidence in the community that the people are in favour of having the subject examined and it seems to be a particularly non-_ ‘rewarding endeavour in which to participate. Nevertheless, Mayor Campbell has instructed me to advise that Alderman P.F. Ranger and Alderman M.A. Thompson will be this City's representatives on the Advisory Committee but we must emphasize that their appointment and their participation in the activities of the Committee is not to be in any way taken as an indication that the Council of the City of Port Coquitlam believe a study is necessary. Our Council emphatically feels that such a study is not necessary but the fact is that the Province intends to have one conducted ~ necessary or not — and our Council feel that no partitular purpose would be served by remaining aloof from such an accomplished fact. Doubtlessly you will be informing our Committee members of the date the Committee will first meet. Yours very truly, RAF:ba R. A. Freeman, Enc. , City Clerk. c.c. Mayor J.L. Tonn, District of Coquitlam; Mayor T.W. Hall, City of Port Moody; Mrs. V. Barrett, Regional Director, Electoral Area B; Alderman P.F. Ranger; and Alderman M.A. Thompson.
