Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That the report of the Finance Committee, April 24th, 1979 being Statements of Accounts Payable in the amount of $103,946.80, be approved. Carried. From the Public Works Committee, April 24th,..1979. advising.of .a... request from the owner of the Old Star Furniture Building, 2567-75 Shaughnessy Street, for removal of the speed bump in the lane directly behind the building. Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Wright: That as requested by the owner of the Old Star Furniture Building, 2567-75 Shaughnessy Street, the speed bump in the lane west of Shaughnessy ey Street located directly behind the Old Star Furniture Building be removed. Carried. Aldermen Ranger and Mabbett voted against the resolution. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution discussion ensued on speed bumps. Mayor Campbell advised the Old Star Furniture Building is beginning to crack above the door as a result of cars and trucks going over the speed bump. Alderman Mabbett stated the Public Works Committee . had not received complaints from the previous owner regarding the speed bump. Alderman Laking stated in his opinion if the one speed bump was removed requests for removal of others would be received. Alderman Wright asked for clarification on the City's liability if the speed bump were not removed and the building was damaged as a result. Mayor Campbell gave a brief explanation on what had transpired in the past regarding speed bumps. Alderman Traboulay expressed his concern regarding speed bumps and the possible damage they can cause to cars. Alderman Ranger spoke in favour of leaving the speed bump in place.
