From the Land Sales Committee, March 3rd, 1976, referring to discussions held relating to the desirability of acquiring Lots 7, 8, & 9, Plan 2080 ~ being the North-east corner of Shaughnessy Street and Pitt River Road ~ for future road widening purposes, and advising that the owner has indicated a sale price of $55,000.00 (slightly over $18,000.00 per lot), which is within current appraisals. Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Keryluk: That as recommended in a report from the Land Sales Committee, March 3rd, 1976, Lots 7, 8, & 9, Plan 2080, located at the North-east corner of Shaughnessy Street and Pitt River Road, be purchased for the price of $55,000.00; AND THAT the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to-execute. the necessary documents in connection therewith on behalf of the City, and to affix the Corporate Seal thereto. From the Community Development Committee, March 4th, 1976, advising of a request received from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to purchase City~owned land legally described as the Remainder of D, Plan 5086, located at Reeve Street and Kelly Avenue which is in the Agricultural Land Reserve and the Flood Plain, although it has been determined that the Church use can be accommodated in the Flood Plain and the Land Commission has advised that exemption may be considered. The Committee, in its report, advised it did not recommend sale of the land at this time as it was felt the results of the Coquitlam River study should be known prior to making a decision thereon. Mr. W. Mulier, 1314 Elinor Crescent, acted as spokesman for the delegation from the Church in attendance and he then gave a brief presentation in favour of the proposed land purchase. Alderman Laking pointed out that the City agreed to sell the adjacent parcel of land to the School Board and Mayor Campbell stated he felt Churches were a very important part of the Community.
