The results were so encouraging, that the City.of Oakland launched a city-wide neighbourhood. volunteer recruitment and cross training program to handle future major disasters like earthquakes. N’hood respense involves recruitment, training and coordination cf large numbers of citizens; many in jobs normally reserved for professionals. Significant commitments to public awareness, training and cross training, emergency planning, pre-planned equipment and supplies are needed to launch an effective n’hood program. PAGE BS
