Traboulay, Mayor of the Corporation of The City of Port Coquitlam, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM that the United Nations flag shall be flown at City Hall on Tuesday, September 15, 1992 to commemorate the "INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE" in the City of Port Coquitlam and do further urge non-governmental organizations and individual citizens of Port Coquitlam to commemorate this day by means of education and a minute’s silence, to dedicate themselves to strengthening and building peace between nations and people both within our City and the world over. His Worship Mayor L.M. Traboulay introduced for public participation the Firearms Prohibition Amendment Bylaw No. 2715, regarding Douglas Island. Correspondence was received from the Vancouver Natural History Society, the Burke Mountain Naturalists, and the Ministry of Environment Lands and Parks. Councillor Keryluk left the Council Chambers at 8:17 p.m. The following people spoke regarding proposed Bylaw Amendment. Mr. Larry Tolson, 1675 Smith Avenue, Coquitlam, is opposed to this Amendment and suggests that the island should be kept as green space. Mr. Bill Otway, 1635 Taylor Street, feels Council should not consider hunting in its discussions, only the discharge of firearms. Mr. Kerry Kukucha, Sturgeon Game Club, 1234 West 7th Avenue, Vancouver, gave information regarding the Sturgeon Game Club’s function on Douglas Island. Mr. David Papau, 6238 Churchill Street, Vancouver, also a member of the Sturgeon Game - Club, outlined the restrictions of the club on the island. Mr. Doug Bennie, 1827 Harbour Street discussed safety aspects and stated how there would be no problem if there is no shooting allowed. Ms. Gerioux, 2645 Kitchener Street stated her opposition, as she would like to keep firearms out of the area. Mr. McGowan, 3520 Clayton is opposed to people who live outside of the City shooting within the City limits.
