THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM AUG 16 1982 TO: B. Kirk, . July 21, 1982 City Administrator FROM: FE. Peters., P. Eng., City .Engineer SUBJECT: Stop Signs on Newberry at Fraser - oe Public Works Committee - July 20th, 1982 RECOMMENDATION: That Council approve the installation of a two-way stop on Newberry Street at Fraser Avenue. ; BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: A petition from residents of Birchland Mor was received by the Committee. The petitioners point uut the number of accidents and near accidents which occur at the intersection of Newberry and Fraser. Keith Ballantyne was present to represent the petitioners and reported on a survey he had done indicating that a large proportion of drivers through the intersection do not look for opposing traffic. Our records show an average of about one reported accident per year which is not unusual for a typical City intersection including those which do have stop signs. . This is an intersection of two local streets where normally we do not provide stop signs. However, Fraser Avenue does act like a collector street with a school at each end, and stop signs on Newberry would provide some additional protection for school children crossing the intersection. For this reason, the Committee does recommend stop signs on Newberry Street. t x F.E. Peters., P. Eng., City Engineer
