Studio Arts is the largest department in the Faculty of Fine Arts and enjoys a longstanding reputation as one of Canada’s foremost environments for the study and creation of visual art. Ceramics is a growing program of study within Studio Arts. Linked to a rich and diverse material culture history, it is the only university-level program in Quebec and one of the few university-level Ceramics programs in Canada. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Ceramics courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels, participate in the coordination and development of the Ceramics curriculum, and perform required administrative duties in order to further develop this program, the MEA program and the department of Studio Arts, as necessary. The — ideal should have a strong critical/theoretical background and candidate a contemporary understanding of both extended and discipline-based approaches to ceramics material practices. Preference will be given to candidates who are clearly committed to ceramics as a medium and who demonstrate technical expertise in two or more of the following areas: hand-building, clay and glaze technology, mould-making processes, and two or three-dimensional media, Applicants should possess a completed MFA degree, a strong exhibition record, college and/or university teaching experience, demonstrated knowledge of ceramics history and theory and a record of administrative experience and committee service. Although classes are taught in English, fluency in French is considered an asset.
