THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM 3. Notwithstanding 1 and 2 above we are all aware that the protection of the child pedestrian on his way to and from school is an emotionally charged subject. If all the demands of parents and others were met, virtually every street within a school district would be afforded some form of protection. It is necessary, therefore, to devwop uniform Methods of control and establish sound reasons for their use. In Port Coquitlam the system of 20 mile per hour zones and crosswalks has been established over a period of time keeping in mind the many points of view and the unavoidable emotional and political background affecting this subject. I believe that the system that has been arrived at while possibly not perfect and certainly not completely consistent throughout the -City is a reasonable compromise that has worked well. I am concerned that if Council decides to remove all 20 mile per. hour zones a situation will occur subsequently as a result of a sérious accident whereby it will be necessary to act quickly in a specific location. Council will then be in a position of having to work out over a period of time a new system which will probably end up not much different than the system that we now have. Ji V.G. Borch,/ P.
