September 13th, 1976 Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Aiderman Thompson: That the City of Port Coquitlam not participate at this time in the Accredited Labour Relations Association currently being formed by the Greater Vancouver Regional District. Carried. Mayor Campbell and Aldermen Keryluk & Laking voted against the resolution. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, a discussion ensued and Alderman Traboulay stated it seemed to him that participation in the Association is redundant and that the arrangements with the City's Union have not led the Council into a community of interest with the other 16 member municipalities of the Lower Mainland. Mayor Campbell stated his understanding that all C.U.P.E. locals may be forming one bargaining unit and that he felt the motion put forth by Alderman Traboulay was premature at this time. Moved by Alderman Laking: Seconded by Alderman Keryluk: That the foregoing proposed resolution be tabled pending receipt of further information concerning the pussible formation of one bargaining unit encompassing all locals of the Canadian Union of Public Employees. Defeated. Aldermen Laking and Thompson voted in favour of the resolution.
