Cal volleyball squad picks up some steam CAL’S GIRLS’ volleyball squad i is improving fast, if their play at a recent tournament in Kitimat is any indication. The girls finished second in their pool after round robin play at the zone tourney, Oct. 4. They beat beth Kitimat and Fort St. James, losing only to Bulkley Valley Chris- tian. In cross-over play, Cal blasted Burns Lake, sending them into the semi-finals. There, they lost to Charles Hays. So while they didn’t make it to the finals, coach Jackie Thomsen says her crew is really shaping up. “T'm very happy with their improvement so far,” she says, '’They’ve come a long way in a short time.”’ Caledonia’s Heather Kelly was even selected as tourna- ment all-star. The girls’ next tournament j is another zone play-day being held in Rupert this Saturday.
