A tribute to our nurses THE NURSING PROFESSION was the toast of a dinner and presentalion held here May 11 during Canadian Nurses Week. The dinner was held at the Eiks Hall. ~ Shelley Taylor was the Master of Ceremonies and made the in- troductions, Guest speakers included: Sue Rothwell, RN, executive director of New Directions with the min- istry of health; Dr. Philip Lin, Mills Mermorial Hospital’s chief of medica] staff; hospital nursing director Joyce Krause, chief ex- ecutive officer Michael Leisinger, and event organizer Crispina Cote, Awards of excellence were handed out lo nurses with many years of: service at Mills Memorial: @ Elizabeth Wideman, 1i- censed practical nurse (LPN), trained in Alberta before coming to Terrace’s old Red Cross Hos- pilal in 1959. She retired May, 1992 but continues to work on a casual basis. @ [Eleanor O*Boyle, an LPN with 31 years service, started at Milis Memorial in April, 1963. She works full-time in the operat- ing room and in central supplies. @ Jean Schoeps, RN, staried nursing at Mills in 1962 as a gen- eral duly nurse. After a 12 year absence to raise children she has Telurned to work as a casual in matemily. HB Mary Jepsen, an RN with 25 years service, first nursed at Frince Rupert Hospital from 1961-64. She started at Mills in 1969. She now works in the new- born nursery. @ Lita Flynn, an RN with 20 years service, received her train- ing in the Phillipines, She started at Mills in 1974 and is now head nurse in the nursery/maternity wards, Mm 6Betty Campbell, a retired RN, slarted nursing in 1940. She started work in Terrace at Ter- race’s ald Red Cross Hospital in 1954. She retired in 1986. Mz Nel Lieuwen, RN, started nursing at Mills Memorial in 1962. She was a supervisor in medical/surgical for 20 years be- fore reliring in 1989, mg OGert Grundman, RN, started nursing at Mills in 1972, She retired in 1984, @ Shirley Sutherland, an RN with 25 years service, began nurs- ing at Mills in 1969. Her retire- ment party was held May 21. M@ Norma Morrison was a 20 year carcer public health nurse with the Skeena Health Unit. m@ Nora Gines, RN, has 44 years in nursing, after graduating in 1950 from the Phillipines. She came to Canada in 1960 and be- gan nursing at Mills Memorial in 1973, She worked in the operat- ing room and recovery room. These nurses are among the many dedicated nurses at Mills Memorial Hospital who make the difference in the personal care given to patients.
