July 30th, Mr. S. Gray, 834 Alder Place, spoke against duplexes as in his opinion people tend to be transient. Mrs. Sharon Robertson, 3573 Hamilton Street, expressed her concern regarding the way in which some occupants of duplexes do not keep up the maintenance. Mr. W. Braun, 827 Alder Place, stated one of the people petitioning me against duplexes was not a property owner, and further mentioned that although Mr. Sitter's property was well cared for it had not been so in the past. Mrs. Betty Summers, 779 Alder Place, expressed concern regarding the size of house to be built on the lot behind her. Mr. V. MacIjauskas, 826 Alder Place, spoke in favour of having mixed types of housing in an area. Mr. M. Sitter expressed concern that there would be parking problems in the area. Alderman Ranger stated he was not against duplexes being interspersed among the community and does not feel property values are affected. Alderman Traboulay stated he would have made the recommendation approval not be given to the duplex applications had it been pointed out o ) nee” by the petitioners that it would mean a change to the density of the dwellings in the area but that the arguments given did not support rejection. Alderman Traboulay spoke in support of renters. Mrs. Sharon Robertson, 3573 Hamilton Street, asked for clarification of who could be contacted if the properties were not kept up. Mayor Campbell advised the City's By-law Enforcement Officer should be informed of any problems. Mr. S. Woodworth, 766 Alder Place, stated whether a person rents or buys a dwelling there is only a 50-50 chance they will keep up the maintenance. Mayor Campbell then stated, in his opinion, the Public Hearing had given everyone a chance to give their opinion and for the first time people had given both pros and cons for the rezoning applications presenting both sides of the picture.
