December 4th, 1978. Alderman Laking then addressed the meeting and stated that during - Alderman Laking | the past year he has served as Chairman of the Leisure Activities Committee. | 1978 has been quite an active year with Council's wish to see the Senior Citizen Facility expanded. There is a tremendous population of Senior Citizens interested in recreation and the Senior Citizen Recreation complex should be completed during the early part of January 1979. Alderman Laking advised there has been some delay in getting the steel and flooring from the suppliers but it is nearing completion now. The development of Evergreen Park was started in 1978 and should be completed in 1979. The development of the new park at Taylor Street and Morgan Avenue will get underway in 1979.. Alderman Laking then expressed his appreciation to the people who volunteer their time to make minor sports possible. The Parks Department has been working to upgrade areas in the City with landscaping, the latest area being the Northeast corner of Lougheed Highway and Shaughnessy Street, they have also started on Ryan Street with a buffer zone of evergreens to separate the industrial area from the residential area. The Leisure Activities Couwmittee has been studying their budget over the past year looking at methods of reducing costs witho.t reducing the amount of service. Aiderman Laking then welcomed Alderman Wright and expressed his appreciation to retiring Alderman M.A. Thompson. Alderman Traboulay addressed the meeting and stated that the taking — Alderman Traboulay of the Oath is a committment of the Alderman for two years of service to his community, the City of Port Coquitlam, and then stated he accepts this committment willingly and pledges to continue to do his best to maintain the orderly running of the City of Port Coquitlam. He further stated the last two years have seen some change to the City - improvement of traffic patterns, improvement to roads, parks, playfields, bus stop zones, commercial and industrial areas and improvements will continue as funds become available. He stated that with the increased costs next year it is hoped that the Federal Government will heed our request for an increase in the home owner grant. Alderman Traboulay expressed his appreciation J to Alderman Mabbett, Co-Chairman of the Building and Protection Committee and Mrs. Judith Nacht for her work on the Library Committee and welcomed
