Re: Elevator Requirement in. New
Apartment Buildings

The current policy of Council is to require the
provision of elevators in new apartment buildings of three.
storeys or higher regardless of the number of dwellings in.
the building.

A discussion took place on this policy during the
December 7th, 1977 Planning and Zoning Committee Meeting.
The Committee concluded that such policy is overly restrictive
and since its adoption a number of small apartment projects
have been scrapped on account of the. added costs to meet this

requirement... Oo oo .

A number of. municipalities in the Greater Vancouver
Area were contacted and it appears that: none of these muni-~
cipalities have any established policy requiring the provision
of elevators.

The Committee therefore recommends that a review of
this policy be undertaken by the new Planning and Zoning Committee.
