With only a few days left before this deadline, we are still short some 700 subs. As a result, we have found it necessary to prolong the Drive by one month. With eight weeks of campaigning behind them, it was inevitable that supporters of the Pacific Tribune would find little time to spend gathering up the hundreds of expired subscriptions that have to be renewed and visiting new people to add to our mailing list. In short, through no fault of their own, the people upon whom we rely to carry us through this vital campaign were devoting most of their time and energy in an equally important ‘‘other’’ campaign—the fight to working-class representatives to Ottawa. Now, that fight is temporarily over. In or- Drive target der to give ourselves a fair and reasonable chance to conclude our Sub Drive on a note of success, we have extended the Drive cut- off date to December 15. If the additional time is put to good use (which means utilizing every day, beginning NOW), there's an excellent chance our Drive objective and budgetary requirements will be,met. If, on the other hand, the job isn’t tackled immediately we could have a first-class fin- ancial crisis on our hands—one that would imperil the very existence of this progres- sive, labor organ. These are the alternatives before us. given the same type of splendid co-opera- tion our readership provided in last year's Circulation Drive,we are confident that when the December 15 day of reckoning comes around it will find us well over our minimum 1500 Drive objective.
