FEATURED ARTIST, Gallery of BC Ceramics h ee, The February Featured artist is our own Gallery Assistant Samantha Knopp. Sam Knopp was born in Red Deer, Alta. and has attended The University of British Columbia and Emily Carr University of Art and nc? - Design where she is set to complete her BFA this spring. Sam says that in her work she “...stresses the intimacy of the ceramic object and its potential to create meaning through investigations of materiality, process, and labour. I am interested in creating work that is tactile and playful through simple yet decisive approaches to surface, form, colour, and texture. My work draws inspiration from the language of minimalism while at the same time embracing the idiosyncrasies that naturally arise from the hand and the fire in the making process. This is an important part of my work because it is these unique differences that point to the mediums materiality, tradition, and community and brings meaning to my practice”. with SUZY BIRSTEIN where Mama Mia was filmed! - Skopelos Foundation for the Arts Info & registration: 604.737.2636, www.suzybirstein.com Potters Guild of BC Newsletter - February 2013 11
