THE CITY is giving its
building inspectors the tools
to crack down on owners of
illegal suites.

Council has adopted a
policy that will allow build-
ing inspectors to shut down
opcrators of illegal sultes
built after Jan. 1, 1991,

City staff have compiled a
list of homes where new
secondary suites have beer
built blatandy in contraven-
tion of the rules,

‘We're going to deal with
them shortly, as soon as
there’s time,’’ said senior
building inspector Paul
Gipps.

Gipps sees houses where —
the owners claim they’re not
pulting in a secondary suite,
but electrical outlets are
being installed at counter -
height in the basement for
no other logical reason.

And about three or four |
operators at the top of
Gipps’ list have openly built
illegal suites in contraven- |
