Kirk, January 10, 1985 City. Administrator : . . FROM: F.e. Paters., P. Eng., City Enginaer SUBJECT: Parking on Coast Meridian north of Salisbury Avenue = Works and Services Committee, January 8th, 1985 ’ RECOMMENDATION: That the wide shoulder on the east side of Coast Meridian Road north of | Salisbury Avenue be signed for angle parking only from the north boundary of the 7Eleven store property to the north side of the padestrian access to the AE, LePage bullding; ‘ And that south of this access to Sallsbury Avenue be signed for No Parking At Any Time. - BACKGROUND ANO COMMENTS: The road allowance of Coast Meridian Road Is extremely wide north of Salisbury even though the pavement is narrow. There Is a wide shoulder on the east side which Is needed for parking and Is used regularly for paral ial parking. The problem Is thar there Is no clear designation of how to park and often cars will be trapped by others double parking. ' ; , A -praper solutien to this. prodlem would be to widen Coast Meridian Road to Its ultimate width with a curb so that parallel! parking could be controlled. Another alternative solution would be to pave the boulavard so that !ines can be marked on It and use It for angle parking. @oth of the above solutions are costly. Another selution Is simply to install angle parking signs and hope that the drivers have enough sense to use this parking area in its most efficient way. The latter solution is recommanded although It will be necessary to limit the extent of the angl@ parking because the pavement tapars from Salisbury north, If angle parking Is started north of the walkway which leads to the A.&. LePage entrance, then ‘parked cars should not Interfere with tratfle on the road. The ramalnder of the ' road should be marked for No Parking. to. Improve visibility at the Intersection and 7: ' ' for these angle parked’ cars backing into the tratfic stream. - | | ; “ Poe, | | : | F.E. Peters, P.
