B6 - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, June 11, 2003 Branch 13 memb the Legion’s high CONTRIBUTED MAY 31 was a big night for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 13, as members and guests cele- brated honours and awards night. Many special awards were handed out at the an- nual event in recognition of years of service and other contributions, The legion also dis- bursed $13,500 in dona- tions to local charities. Recipients included the Cancer Society, Citizens on Patrol, Terrace Dart Club, Guides of Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. and Yukon, Scouts Canada, Special Olympics, Step- ping Stones Clubhouse, Greater Terrace Beautifi- cation Society, Terrace Community Band, Terrace Churches Food Bank, Ter- race Hospice Society, Ter- race Little Theatre, Ter- race Pipes and Drums, Terraceview Lodge, Thornhill Primary School and 747 Air Cadets. Quite a few members were awarded lapel pins for many years as mem- bers. Five year associate pins went to Cheryl Irwin, and Carl Muller; 10-year pins to Mavis Hamilton, Claire Irwin, Eleanor Meek, Claude Mercereau, and Angela Schulmeister. Fifteen-year pins went to Linda Kawinsky, Fran- cis Lindstrom, James Mackenzie and Murial Michiel. Twenty-five year pins _were awarded to Beverly Evans and Keith Norman. Pins for ordinary mem- bers went to Allen Bella- my and John Shaw for 10 years; Robert Cooper for 25 years; Bud Hallock, Hazel Holtom and Widar Sandhals for 30 years; Bob Coburn, John Goriak and Bud Kirkaldy for 35 years and to Cmde. William McRae. for 40 yearsiseiz vice. The Ladies Auxilliary to Branch 13 handed out Certificates of Apprecia- tion to Eleanor Meek, Mary Ann Burdett, Brian Kirkaldy, Curley Casey, William McRae, Ann Kohl and Goldie Hill for their many hours of service and assistance. The final four awards of the night were special. Cmde, Charles Meek, master of ceremonies, first brought Cmde. Ron Gowe forward to accept the Royal Canadian Legion Award of Volunteer of the Year, without doubt the most hard-earned award in our organization. The next award went to Linda Fisher, a member of our Ladies Auxilliary. She received a standing ova- tion as she accepted the Meritorious Service Award, the highest award given to a non-Legion member.
