The ban does not effect target shooting or gamebird hunting in upland areas unless there is an important wetland nearby. Anyone found using lead shot once the ban is in place could lose their migratory bird hunting permit for at least one year and face a maximum $5,000 fine or up to six months in prison for a first offence.
