C’est le 10ieme et le 20ieme pour moi aussi!

aiment bien les fétes.
Mais c’est vrai que

dans le nord-ouest, nos com-
munautés aiment aussi les
grandes célébrations. Alors,
peut-étre c’est parfait qu’en
2020, AFFNO va féter TOUTE
L’ANNEE.

Oui, vous avez lu ¢a cor-
rectement. Pour l’année 2020,
nous fétons le 10 ... et le 20.
J’explique: premi¢rement,
notre 20iéme anniversaire
est en novembre 2020, mais
nous ne voulons pas attendre
jusqu’en novembre prochain,
alors l’année entiére ... 2020
... nous célébrons!

Mais aussi, en janvier 2020,
nous organisons notre 10iéme
Cabane a Sucre ici 4 Prince
Rupert, avec un festival de
10 jours. En méme temps que
notre festival, le groupe Bon
Débarras, du Québec, fera
une tournée du nord: Terrace,
Prince Rupert, Prince George,
et Smithers.

Pendant le mois de juin,
pour le festival de la Saint-Jean

Baptiste, probablement nous
ferons quelque chose extra et
spécial, parce que ... oui, nous
fétons!

Finalement, vous lirez aux
pages 8 et 9 que notre 9i¢me
meurtre-mystére a été notre
meilleur succés a date... et oui,
en octobre 2020, nous or-
ganisons notre 10i¢me ! Quelle
année pour AFFNO!

Alors, peut-étre maintenant
c’est un bon temps de réfléchir
a ce qu’ AFFNO a accompli
dés son début en novembre
2000. Les premiéres années
de notre existence, nous avons
créé des liens 4 Kitimat et
Terrace, et nous avons établi
un bureau a Kitimat pour une
dizaine d’années. AFFNO a
commencé a organiser nos
festivals d’hiver a Kitimat, et
le festival a pris de l’ampleur
jusqu’a la grande féte en 2010,
oul nous avons aussi eu le relais
de la flamme olympique a Kiti-
mat. AFFNO a aussi ajouté des
membres 4 notre association
dans d’autres villes comme
Prince Rupert et Smithers.

Mais vers la fin de 2010,
AFEFNO a décide de démé-
nager le bureau a Prince
Rupert. La décision n’était
pas facile, mais quand méme,

cela nous a donné la chance de
commencer un nouveau festi-
val a Prince Rupert: La Cabane
a Sucre.

Looking back at 10, 20 years for AFFNO

rancophones love
parties. Yet it is also
true that here in the

Northwest, our communities
love big celebrations too. So,
maybe it’s just perfect that in
2020, AFFNO will party ALL
YEAR LONG.

Yes, you read that correctly.
For 2020, we are celebrating
the 10 ... and the 20. Let me
explain: first of all, our 20th
anniversary is in November
2020, but we don’t want to
wait until next November, so
for the entire year ... 2020 ...
we are going to celebrate!

But also, in January 2020,
we are holding our 10th annual
Sugar Shack Festival here in
Prince Rupert, with a festival

of 10 days. At the same time,
Bon Débarras, a musical group
from Quebec, will tour the
north: Terrace, Prince Rupert,
Prince George, and Smithers.

Meanwhile, in June, for
Saint-Jean Baptiste Day, it is
likely we will do something
extra special because ... we are
partying!

Finally, you will see on
pages 8 and 9 that our 9th
Murder Mystery was our best
ever ... and yes, in October
2020, we will host our 10th!
What a year for AFFNO!

So now, maybe it is a good
time to look back at what
AFFNO has accomplished ever
since our debut in November
2000. During the first years

of our existence, we built
relationships in both Kitimat
and Terrace, and established
our office in Kitimat for the
first 10 years. AFFNO began
to organize our winter festivals
for Kitimat, and the festival hit
its peak in 2010, when we also
welcomed the Olympic flame
to Kitimat. AFFNO also was
able to add members to our
association from other cities
such as Prince Rupert and
Smithers.

But near the end of 2010,
AFFNO decided to move its
office to Prince Rupert. It was
not an easy decision, but it
did give us the chance to start
a new festival in Rupert: the
Sugar Shack. The first festival

debuted in January 2011, and
we began with a small group
of approximately 200 people,
including volunteers. And
yes, the community of Prince
Rupert really liked the festival,
and now, in preparation for
2020, we know that it’s a
festival that the people of
Prince Rupert look forward to
every year, with always more
than 300 people participating.
True, a 10-day festival this
year will be tons of work for
us, but we are ready!

In 2014, our winter festival
returned to Kitimat after
a three-year hiatus, and in
Feburary 2019, we finally sold

out!
